BARRYVILLE, NY: The chance meeting of a local artist and a local record producer led to a collaboration that has brought a new audio CD to life. The result is "I Shouldn't Be Singing This Song", a 10 track CD now available worldwide.
“I met Nick through an art class,” says Paul E. Mitchell, of Trick Dog Recording in Glen Spey, NY. "He had a bunch of songs and booked some time in my studio. Nick sang his original songs for two hours without a break! I feel I got to know a little bit about him that afternoon."
“Paul is a great producer,” says singer/songwriter Nick Roes. “His gentle guidance coaxed my best self out into the studio.”
A visual artist who is also Director of the Artists’ Market Community Center in Shohola, PA, Nick designed the cover art for the CD as well. The title track (“I Shouldn’t Be Singing This Song”) is about the stray thoughts that sometimes sneak into the mind of a happily married man.
Other tracks include “Love Costs”, which seems to refer to emotional costs rather than finances. “Not Appropriate” might not be appropriate, but it’s offered without any apologies. And “A Man Who Isn’t Me” helps us understand why others will probably never know us as we really are.
Also included on the disc or download are: “Phony Love”, “Becca”, “Not Drunk Enough”, “Drummer Boy”, “Special Kind of Love”, and “Bite Your Nose”. It’s a great mix of styles and emotions—some sad and some silly.
The music is available at many retail and online sites, including the Artists’ Market, 114 Richardson Avenue, Shohola, PA and all the streaming services. Just search for Nick Roes Music
