Martin Guitars – The Dick Boak Collection

Celebrating Dick Boak’s unique career and pending retirement from C. F. Martin & Co. with a display of instruments from his personal collection, including: primitive “Boakstruments” from his early teenage years, personally-built acoustic and electric experimental instruments from his initial Martin years, a number of Martin Signature Editions from his Artist Relations years, the recent d-boak “Inside Out” Limited Edition Dreadnought featuring his illustrative artwork on the soundboard, his 000 12-fret retirement guitar made with special madrone burl gifted to him by the great George Nakashima, plus a few unusual non-Martin surprises.

Klein Guitars: 50th Anniversary Special Exhibit

Luthier Steve Klein broke through the guitar building scene in 1967 with the first major leap forward in the design of the steel string guitar in more than a generation.  Considered a pioneer, a genius, and sometimes a radical by his peers, Klein fundamentally shifted the way that players, builders, and collectors view the guitar. Klein’s major accomplishments, featured in this special exhibit, focus on three major areas: design innovation of the steel string guitar, including his famous “flying brace”; ergonomically balancing the instrument with the human body to create harmony while playing; and insistence on creating the instrument as art – leveraging industrial design, world-renowned inlay and marquetry, and even jewelry making arts in the creation of his masterpieces.

A luthier (from the word lute) is a stringed-instrument maker. Fine handmade instruments such as these are not usually available in music stores or other retail environments, and the Luthiers Showcase is a rare opportunity for the public to see, play and experience the instruments, meet with their makers, discuss custom options and one of a kind creations, and buy or order a dream guitar from dozens of master builders, all gathered together in one place. Other vendors include tonewood dealers, parts and tool suppliers, string and accessories manufacturers, publications and instructional materials, lutherie services and schools. The three-day show features continuous live music, mini-concerts, demos and special appearances; plus Special Exhibits and Special Events included in the admission fee. We also present a series of Instructional Clinics and Workshops, taught by some of the world's finest instrumentalists, and our annual String Sampler Concert, by separate admission.
